Bringing an over-bright sky down
Paint the sky alone and set brightness to −30.
Guide
Local Adjust is the area-by-area colour panel of the image workbench (?tool=local). Start with “New adjustment layer”, then paint over the canvas with the brush to mark the area it should affect; what you have painted shows up in magenta as the mask of the current layer. That layer then gets four controls — brightness, contrast, saturation and temperature, each from −100 to 100. Layers stack: every one keeps its own mask and values, the list shows “N strokes” and a summary of the settings, and the brush has a size, an edge feather (0–95%, 55% by default) and an “Erase mode” that subtracts from the mask. “Apply to base image” composites all layers through their masks and bakes the result in; that step can be undone and exports can replay it on the original file. The processing is local to the browser.

It is the same colour maths as “Image Adjust”, and the difference is reach: that tool changes the whole frame, this one changes only the places you painted.
| Input | Output | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Backlit portrait, paint the face, brightness +35, temperature +10 |
Only the face becomes brighter and warmer; the sky behind it stays as it was |
55% feather keeps the edge natural |
A second layer over the sky, saturation +30, brightness −15 |
A deeper, bluer sky, unaffected by the first layer |
Layers are independent |
Painted past the face into the hair, then erased over it |
The hair is removed from the mask |
The magenta highlight disappearing means it is erased |
Paint the sky alone and set brightness to −30.
Brighten and warm the face, leaving the background untouched.
Desaturate the background by −40 and the product's colours pop.
An area lit by a yellow lamp gets its own cooler temperature.
It is a preview of the current layer's mask, shown while you edit and never exported. Switching to another layer shows that layer's mask instead.
It needs at least one layer with strokes and non-zero settings. Painting without adjusting, or adjusting without painting, is not enough.
No. Applying bakes every layer into the base image; the only way is Ctrl+Z and repainting.
Masks and adjustments are calculated locally in the browser, the image is not uploaded to any server, and it is released from memory when the page is closed.
